MaxPak is the name of the Midlands AX25 Packet Radio User Group. Formed in 1983, the group is now one of the oldest Packet Radio groups in the UK.
AX25 is a digital protocol used
by Radio Hams all over the world, to communicate with each other. Messages can include text, graphics, data, and binary files, in fact anything you wish to send. The messages go by several routes, including, Direct Radio, Satellite, or the Internet. The amateur network chooses the best available route at the time you input your message. A worldwide network of BBS's (Bulletin Board System's) send and receive the messages. Once mail is received at the users BBS, correctly addressed to another station anywhere in the world, it will be sent via the packet radio network, directly into that stations packet radio system. The operating software used by most amateur radio stations is capable of automatic store and forward, which means you do not necessarily have to be present when a mail session is taking place.
The group meets regularly in on the first Monday each month, at which, packet radio related talks and demonstrations take place. All members and visitors are most welcome. Our membership is of course spread much wider, and includes Radio Hams in Europe and the USA.
We meet at the Sir Robert Peel Public House, located on the main A4124 Bell Lane adjacent to the Lichfield Road / Broad Lane Junction / traffic lights. Click here for the Map
All members receive our bimonthly
DIGICOM newsletter, describing our activities and up to date packet
radio information. Member's who are unable to attend the monthly
meetings are kept informed and do not lose out on their membership.
